We are reminded by the passing of Mr Crouch that a man may not be prominent in the eyes of the general public and yet be a useful influence and a far-reaching one
(writes the Sydney correspondent, of the Melbourne Argus). The late Mr Crouch was known to bowlers throughout Australia and New Zealand as “Pickwick,” his physique instantaneously suggesting . the Dickens character. He filled the part without acting it. He was the genial one always, unruffled, ever "beaming through spectacles at the world that he seemed to appreciate. A retired business man, lie made a. success of enjoyment of leisure. Parliament, saw him for a term, but the atmosphere did not suit him. Inter-State bowlers who came to Sydney looked round (lie green for “Pickwick,” and were keyed up on good-fellowship by his cheery salutation and wave of cigar. He will be remembered fur and wide, but not with grief, for lie was not the man who would have it so. He was just a natural gloom-lifter, and in that way may have done more useful work than a geuius.
