RACING.

FOXTON ANNUAL MEETING. TO-DAY AND MONDAY. All the visiting horses for the a!bove meeting to-day and Monday have arrived, and the prospects for a successful meeting are very bright, and the weather is gloriously fine for the opening day. Only two scratchings have been received, those of Bonifant and Flying Nell in the Maiden. The class of horses engaged are a good lot, and some exciting finishes should be witnessed. The Marton Municipal Band (in full Contest strength) will be in attendance, and will render a select programme of music. The Club has laid itself out to meet its patrons’ requirements in every particular, and everything points to a successful meeting.

SUNDAY CONCERTS BY MARa TON BAND.

On Sunday afternoon the Marton Band will render an open-air eon-, cert on the sands at Manawatu Heads, when a first-class musical programme will be rendered. The concert given by this Band last year was very much enjoyed by the large assemblage, who were liberal in their voluntary donations towards the Contest fund of the Band. In the evening the Band will contribute a Sunday evening concert in the Foxton Town Hall, when the Band will discourse several excellent selections, including the Contest selections, also a number of solos by their baritone, euphonium and cornet players. The Band will also be assisted by Mr 11. Sherriff, of Wanganui, whose wonderful tenor voice was heard to great advantage at the recent Wanganui competitions, where he won a number off laurels. Miss Gaminan, jui elocutionist who lias earned fame'in this department of entertaining, will also render a number of items; also Mrs L. Freeman, of Foxton, who will be heard lo advantage in her contralto solos. A collection will be taken up to assist the Band in its- endeavours to raise funds to take part in the Wellington Contest in. February.
