The need for the Barnard safety attachment in connection with guns and rifles was forcibly brought home in connection with a recent accident to a lad at Wairoa. It appears that the lad was on a visit to the Waikari district, and was out by himself shooting hares or rabbits. He got. through a fence, and, pulling the gun through after him, it exploded, the charge entering one of his (highs. The lad was out all night, crawling wounded to (lie main road, where he was picked up and taken to the Napier hospital. Ampul af ion was necessary. The lad was a son of Mr and Mrs A. G. Smith, of Wairoa.
