PROPOSED REDUCTION IN
SALARIES

Replying to :i deputation from the Educational Institute, who gave reasons why there should lie no reductions in teachers’ salaries, Mr Massey said the financial difficulty bad to be faced, though Ihe task was not a pleasant one. When the increases were made lasi year, the system adopted with teachers was different from that adopted with other branches of the service. He saw no reason why the same system should not apply in the making ol reductions. It was not; this year he was anxious about, but Ihe year following. The teachers would not find that he would at tempi anything more than he could possibly avoid.
