ELECTORAL DISTRICTS.

The map of the Otaki electoral district with the proposed amendments of the Commissioners shows that the district will now comprise the existing Otaki district, together with the whole of the Johnsonville Town District, and that portion of the Mungaroa Riding of Hutt County now excluded from the Hutt electoral district, less the whole of the borough of Levin and that portion of the Wirokino Riding of the Horowhenua County bounded towards the south by Beach road, running from the ocean at Hokio township to the south-western corner of the borough of Levin. The boundary running along Beach road will continue across the railway, then between the properties of Mrs R. Prouse and Mr F, G. Roe, to a point in Mrs Prouse’s property in line with Bartholomew Road, with which it will connect. The boundary will then continue along Bartholomew Road to its intersection with Kawu road in Fairfield, and turn down Kawin Road till it strikes the railway line. From that point the railway will be the boundary to the Buckley Road above Koputaroa, the former dividing line. The Manawatu district will comprise the existing Manawatu electoral district, together with that portion of the Wirokino Riding of Horowhenua County not included in Hie Otaki electoral district, less that portion of the borough of Feilding lying between the existing Manawatu electoral district boundary and the southern and western boundaries of Feilding borough, also less-the whole of the Otakapau Riding' of Rnngitikei County.

LEVIN COUNCIL’S PROTEST,

At. Monday night’s meeting of the Levin Borough Council, Cr. Goldsmith moved, and the Mayor seconded, the following motion: “That this Council is strongly of opinion that the proposed alteration in Iho electoral boundaries, whereby Levin and a portion of the Whirokino Riding is cut out from the-Otaki electorate, is not in the best interests of Ihc district, and directs that a rasper fully worded protest be sent to the Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs.” The Mayor referred to the manner in which the borough was divided, part being in the Otaki, and part in the Manawatu electorates. From a community standpoint that was detrimental, and more than that, Levin was the legal centre of the Otaki electorate, though that, perhaps, did not count for much. From a community of interest point of view the changes were absolutely ridiculous.

Cr. Hobson said Levin’s interests lay in the south, and not to the north.

Cr. Keedwell said the Manawatu River should be Ihe boundary. Cr. Goldsmith traced the new boundaries, and the Council agreed that they were unreasonable. Cr. Goldsmith said there could not lie a better boundary than the old one. Their suburbs, the Village Settlement and Fairfield, were taken away under the new distribution. C’r. McAllister said the object was to get the proper quota of population. Cr. Goldsmith admitted that, this was a difficult matter, but the present division was not justified. The motion was carried. —Chronicle.
