FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
RECORD SUMMER SHOW,
The local Horticultural Society’s Summer Show was opened in the Town Hall this afternoon, and will continue open to-night and tomorrow afternoon and evening. In point of entries and general allround quality of exhibits, the Show
this year constitutes a record. All
classes are so well filled that'extra staging accommodation has had to he provided. A view of the exhibits from the doorway presents a revelation of Nature’s handiwork in the magnificent colouring of the blooms displayed. The sweet peas, roses and other cut blooms, are a magnificent display. Vegetables are a fine feature so early in the season. The cookery class is well represented, as is the school work. Decorated tables are represented by 10 entries. The staging of Ihe exhibits reflect credit upon the officials and stewards. The entries total over 800—a record.
The tea rooms are in charge of Mrs Procter, and apart from the exhibits the public will be entertained with competitions. _ Mrs James Andrews, of Putter Street, has been adjudged the winner of garden attached to cottage (Mr Ales. Speirs’ one guinea), second Mrs C. Ingram, Coley Street (Mrs Austin-Johnston’s 7s (id). Mr D. Christie is the winner of the vegetable garden.
The Society’s sweet pea trophy was awarded to Mrs McMurray (last year’s winner). This trophy now becomes the properly of Mrs McMurray, she having won it on three occasions.
