RIFLE SHOOTING.

The local Club fired a friendly .match with Linton Rifle Club on Saturday, on the local range. During the morning the weather looked very promising, and in the earl}’ afternoon conditions were pretty good, but later on rain came, and the wind, which had been from the left, changed to 4 deg. right, blowing fitfully The Linton team was a little late, but by tiring 7 shots instead of 10, arid with two targets going, the match was finished in time. Refreshments were provided, and heartily partaken of. The match was won by Linton, with a margin of 14 points, and after a few words of mutual thanks and goodwill by Messrs W. A. Ball and S. Head, the visitors left at 5.30.

Under such weather conditions the shooting was somewhat below’ average, many twos and threes being registered. However, several good scores were made—by Messrs Kyle (whose 32 at GOO yds. consisted of six fives and a two), W. Kells, Edwards, Newth, Head, Hamer, and others. Linton’s average per man was 2G.9, and Foxton’s 2G.2. The total scores were made up as follows :
