RETURNED SOLDIERS’ BALL.

The Returned Soldiers’ Ball, held in the Town Hall last evening, profed worthy of the energy spent in elaborate preparation for the occasion, the attendance numbering some 110 dancing couples, besides non-dancers. For the pa'st two days (hose responsible for the function had been making preparations, in the way of decorations and getting the floor into condition, and the success of the hall was a fitting reward for their efforts. Larkins orchestra supplied excellent music, which was enthusiastically commented on by present. The orchestra totalled nine players, but. owing to a mishap to some of f lie party who were journeying from Dannevirke, the dance commenced with the orchestra at only half strength. The arrival of the remainder of the players ajittle later in the evening was the signal for much applause, they having had to complete the journey bV taxi, after a mishap to their ear. The decorations of the ballroom were excellently arranged, greenery and ribbons of blue and white paper being effectively used in the scheme. Visitors were present in strong force from the surrounding districts, and daneingjvas continued until 4 o’clock this morning. Messrs C. and E. Bryant efficiently carried out the duties of Al’s.C. Limelight effects during various dances lent a novel and striking variety to the scene. The catering was in the capable hands of Air J. Walls,and was supervised by Airs Small, the arrangements and table decorations being very favourably commented upon. Extras were played by Aliss W. McDonnell, Atrs Davey, Mr A. Walls, and Air Duncan, of Dannevirke. During the last dance the streamers connected with the decorations were dropped, and confetti showered upon the dancers, which concluded a very successful 1 unction.
