VICE-REGAL VISIT.

LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS

The Borough Council is taking the necessary steps to accord a fitting civic welcome to the Governor-Gen-er.ll and Lady Jellicoe on the occasion of their'first and official visit to our little town. We are sure that the welcome in point of warmth of feeling to his Excellency, and as an evidence of our loyalty to King and Constitution, will be second to none.. If our expressions of welcome and loyalty are not to be engrossed on parchment in the conventional form, the spoken word of the Mayor will convey to his Excellency the fullness of the written record. The civic reception will take place in Main Street, at the Triangle, beside the soldiers’ memorial, at 11.45 a.m. The full details of the ceremonial have been settled by a committee of the Council. There will be ample space for the public to assemble at the locality to witness the cerenjony. Immediately after the civic reception their Excellencies will proceed to the State School. The boys will provide a guard of honour leading from the roadway to the front steps. The children will assemble in class formation, facing the entrance on the north side. As the Vice-Regal partv are proceeding from the gate lo the front entrance of the school, the drums and bugles will sound their welcome. Upon their Excellencies arriving at the entrance, the National Anthem will be sung by the children. The Chairman of Committee will welcome his Excellency 7 on behalf of the Committee, staff and children. Two little girls will then present floral tokens to the Governor-General and Lady Jellicoe. His Excellency will then speak to the children, and probably inspect the school. At the conclusion of this cei’emony the Vice-Regal party will be entertained at luncheon at Whyte’s Hotel, and at one o’clock will open the Anglican Bazaar.
