ALL SAINTS’ HOME.

ERECTION OF BUILDING AT LOCAL SEASIDE.

A meeting wajfi held in the Town Hall supper-room yesterday to discuss. the matter of erecting a building at the local seaside by means of which the children of the All Saints’ Home, Palmerston North, would be enabled to spend n, period each year at the seaside. The Mayor presided. Plans of the proposed building were produced, and Mr Dawick informed the meeting that the building would cost approximately £450. Mr Holben pointed out that of this amount All Saints’ Committee (Palmerston N.). contributed £IOO. There was also, a fair amount of promises on the collection lists. He considered a saving could be effected if wire netting and saturated felt were used instead of sarking. The felt, of which he had had experience, was equally as good as the

sarking. The Mayor asked if there wasn’t a possibility of rats making nests in the felt. Mr Holben said that would not be so if saturated felt was used. It was decided that the plan be adopted, with the exception that wire netting and felt replace sarking, wild that the gabling be carried out the entire length of the build- ' ing.

Mr Monrad suggested that Foxton aim at collecting a definite sum. He said the work lay at Fox ton’s door, as Foxton had the seaside resort, and had no direct support placed on them, as Palmerston had. He was sure the Foxton people would recognise the necessity of the building, and would feel to a certain extent their responsibility in the matter. He suggested that Foxton aim at raising £IOO. He would move that the Canvassing Committee get on with the work and report within 10 days. Mr Perreau, in seconding the motion, said that he considered that Mr Monrad was drawing it very mild for Foxton by suggesting £IOO. lie thought £250 Avould not. lie too much to raise locally. The Rev. Walton said that although the Home was called the “All Saints’ Home,” and was controlled by the Anglican Church, it was undenominational in its work. A child, on being admitted tujthe home, was not questioned as (/» its religion. He stated that there weie three or four Foxton children in the Home. The Home was not a Palm cist on Home, but a Maria watu Home. What they wanted was the small sums. The small givers were not tapped so often as the bigger givers. The point was to get at them.

Air Bock suggested the ladies arrange a Shop Day. Air Walton said he would arrange with the ladies to have a Shop Day

in about a week’s time. The Mayor said the whole district should be asked to contribute. Foxton had been stressed,' but he knew that his own church was helping with orphanages and missions, and lie considered that it was barely fair to single out Foxton to give specially. Levin and Shannon should bo got in touch with. Air Holben said lie would like to add to the motion that the building be proceeded with at once. Air Wagstaffe said that there was very great need to get on with the building. It was only eight weeks to Christmas, and if the building was not up then they might- just as well wait another ten months. Air Bock said the amount in hand was very satisfactory. They had £IOO from Palmerston, and with the amounts already collected or promised £l5O was already made up. He would guarantee a collection of £2O.

It was decided that the Canvassing Committee report within seven days; also that the Mayors of Levin and Shannon he asked to assist. Messrs Jones, Dawick, Holben, Alonrad and Bock were appointed a building Committee, and it was decided to commence building operatiorfs at once. The Ahiyor moved that it be a recommendation to the various committees to arrange entertainments to augment the funds. The following were appointed a local committee: —Atesdamcs Freeman, Sid. Easton, A. Easton, Healey, and AlcAlurray, Alessrs W. E. Barber, Bock, Perreau, Chrystall and Freeman. Air Holben said as it was spring, cleaning time, he thought it would be a good idea to ask householders to donate any old furniture or crockery they didn’t want, to help furnish the new building. Votes of thanks were accorded to the donors of the section, and Messrs Chrystall and W. Bock:
