THE SALVATION ARMY
Last Saturday evening the Palmerston North Silver Band arrived in Foxton by motor lorry, at 6.30 o’clock. Tea was provided in the Army Hall by the sisters of the local corps. .The first engagement Avas the open air meeting in Main Street, at 7.15, the streets being filled to give the visitors a Avelcome. On Sunday morning the Band Avas engaged in holding open air meetings in Coley, Cook and Union Streets, giving residents in those parts an opportunity of hearing the Band. Ensign Inglis, officer in charge of the Palmerston North corps, took charge of all meetings. At 3 o’clock in the afternoon the Band rendered a number of their English marches and selections in Victoria Park, a large crowd being present, and listened Avith much interest.
The usual 7 o’clock service Avas well attended, and the 8.15 p.m. service in the Town Hall was also Avell patronised, Avhen the Band was heard to advantage. Song solos, vocal and instrumental quartettes Avere rendered.
At the conclusion of the open air meeting in Main Street on Saturday evening, Mr Perreau generously entertained the Band at suppei. Bandmaster Jackson proposed a vote of thanks, and three cheers Avere given for Mr Perreau. Captain Tong Avishes to thank the citizens of Foxton for the sum of £l4 raised, and also those who billeted the bandsmen.
