Elaine Hammerstein, avlio is rapidly establishing herself as one of the most refreshing personalities on the screen, has a splendid role in the screen adaptation of Mrs Baillie Reynolds’ novel, “The Daughter Pays,” to be screened on Wednesday only, and Avhich tells lioav Gaunt had been the lover of the girl’s mother, and had been jilted by that heartless young Avonian. In t after years, becoming wealthy and seeing the young daughter of his former sweetheart, Gaunt “buys” the girl in maiTiage, to avenge himself on her for her mother’s heartlessness in their youth. The picture story folloAvs the lines of Mrs Reynolds’ novel, and although the ending is unusual, it carries with it a big lesson —and the picture will undoubtedly appeal very strongly to all classes of picture lovers. Prices as usual, 6d and Is Id, children halfprice.
