CORRESPONDENCE.
| (To the Editor.) Sir presume “Henpecked” thought‘.his reply to my letter a piece of cheap wit —about the only thing, I should say, he doesn’t profiteer in. If I offered my services to the ratepayers (I suppose he means by that, householders, too), and if I were elected to the Council, perhaps I could prove myself to be more than a fossil. I might be able to increase the hawker’s fees for his benefit —ha! ha! Does that pinch you, Mr “Henpecked”? I might also be a source of help to the public if, as he suggests, I were made an honorary and advisory member of the Retailers’ Association, because I’ve got no time for secret combinations. Women may be able to go where there is great variety of choice, and the savings can pay for the outings, too. I haven’t lived in Foxl/on all my life. Perhaps “Henpecked” would like Poxton to be walled in from the outside world. As to his reference to starting a “women’s anti-gossip and scandal society,” there may be a need for such restraint on the part of some of his female friends, but possibly an anti-tippling society would be of service to him. Some people don’t like the publicity of truth. Your footnote, Sir, to my letter, I can treat as a joke, for no doubt you meant it as such. In conclusion, Sir, I am glad I have stirred some peopje up. Thanking you in anticipation.—Yours, etc.,
WOMAN. [THIS correspondence is now closed.—Ed.H.]
