TENNIS NOTES

A Committee meeting was, held in All Saints’ schoolroom on Thursday evening last. Mr Jackson was in the chair.

The following new members were elected: —-Miss Diamond, Mr C. T. Shaw, Miss K. Perreau, Mr and Mrs H. Hamer, Mr J.. Shaw. Accounts amounting to £5 15s 7d were passed for payment. It was decided to charge 5s per pair for balls cash, and 5s fid if booked.

Twenty players took part in a Yankee tournament on Saturday, which was a great success. The winners were: M'orris Robinson, 93 points; Mrs McMurray, 100 points. Great praise is due to Miss McMurray for her patience and intitalive in drawing up the numbers for this tournament. From a spectacular point of view it was no light task. The outstanding features are: If 20 players take part in the games which are doubles, each couple get five games each, and one does not play with the same partner more than once right through the tournament. It is the opinion of several members that it would be advisable to hold these tournaments every Saturday, because everyone gets the chance of playing. Unless a scheme of this sort is kept going, the Club is not going to get the number of learners it requires to make it a success both socially and financially. It is the learners that count a good deal, because they are the coming team. As older members drop out, the new ones have to take their places. ,

A team of six ladies and six gentlemen from Bulls are coming down to play a friendly match with Foxton on AYednesday (to-morrow), play to commenec at 1.30 p.m. The following is the team to play:— Ladies: Mrs MifMurray, Miss McMurray, Miss J McCormick, Miss Hawke, Mrs Moore, Miss Beard.
