GIRL BATHERS’ DILEMMA

WASPS AND CHOCOLATES.

Wasps “held up” two Aldershot girl bathers in a Surry pond by settling on their clothing, to which they were attracted by melted chocolates. As the girls came out of the water they were horrified to find a bag of chocolates alive with hundreds of wasps, hundreds more were buzzing around, waiting an opportunity to’get a share. Twice the girls made vain attempts to drive away the insects, but had to retire discomfited. For an hour they sat disconsolate on the bank of the pond, while the wasps devoured the chocolates and defied allcomers.

In the end help arrived in an old farm labourer, who made a fire of dried grass and then piled on damp water weeds. And thus the enemy were “gassed” into flight.
