SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
NEED FOR IMPROVEMENT
At last night’s School Committee meeting, the acting head master (MiBroad) stressed the necessity for more regular attendance of scholars. The number on the roll at the beginning of last quarter was 407, 36 had ,been enrolled during the quarter, and 25 had left. The number on the roll at the end of the quarter was 418. The average attendance for March quarter was 367, June 366, September 360; average for the year to date, 364. The headmaster pointed out that the average attendance required to maintain the present number of assistants on the staff was 361. He strongly recommended that no children should be exempt except, on the grounds of sickness or severe sties® of weather.
The Committee agreed with the head master’s recommendations, and asked that the necessary steps he taken to impress upon parents the necessity for sending their children to school regularly, and to report cases of neglect in this connection.
