FOOTBALLERS’ BALL.

The second annual ball in connection with the above club was held in the Town Jlall last night, and was a great success from all points of view. The half was very tastefully decorated with greenery, streamers, etc., which lent a charming effect in the mellow light. The supperroom was also very tastefully decorated with the coloitrs of the Club, while the tables were very tempting with their pleasing array of delicacies. There were some seventy couples in all on the floor, which was in good order, and the music by the Larkin Orchestra was all that could be desired. During the course of the evening, Mr Whibley presented the Fourth Grade team with their trophy. In doing, so, he said that, speaking as a committeeman of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, he had to congratulate the Club on the sportsmanlike manner in which their teams in each grade had played their games. He regretted that the Thirds’ trophy was not available, but hoped to have it on hand shortly. On handing the cup to Mr W. Christie, the captain, he said that he hoped in future years to see him lead teams in higher grades to victory in the same way as he had led this one.

Mr Robinson, on behalf of the team, thanked the Rugby Union for the cup. Mr Whibley then presented Mr F. Robinson, the Fourth Grade coach, with a medal from the members of the team as a token of appreciation for'his services to them during the season. Mr Robinson suitably replied. Dancing was indulged in until after 3 a.m. During the last waltz the paper streamers were dropped, and became entangled in the limbs of the thoroughly tired buf nevertheless happy throng.
