BIG BANKRUPTCY

Wellington, Sept. 22,

An illustration of the recent slump in rabbit skins was given when a bankrupt, Clifford Peel, indent agent, faced his creditors to-day. Bankrupt alleged that a linn in Sydney, with whom he had negotiated in respect of skins, had committed a breach of contract, and consequently he intended suing for £I,BOO. Peel had plunged extensively when rabbit skins boomed, aiuMoured the South Island, making arrangements with trappers, who now have contingent claims. The total debts amounted to £14,391, and the assets to £1,947, showing a deficiency of £12,444. The amount, owing to unsecured creditors was £1,604 5s Bd, and amounts owing to creditors for loans totalled £8,920. In order to produce the books, the case was adjourned.
