WHITEBAIT FISHING
SOME LOCAL GRIEVANCES,
CHIEF INSPECTOR OF FISHERIES VISITS FOXTON.
Mr Ayson, Chief Inspector of Fisheries, visited Foxton yesterday to confer with local whitebait fishermen in respect to certain grievances which had been forwarded to the Department. He proceeded to the seaside in company with the local inspector, Constable Owen. The chief grievance appeared to be an objection to one person monopolising a certain “stand’’ on a drain which fio’ws from a lake into, the Manawatu at the locality. A good deal of discussion waged round this point. Mr Ayson said he did not hold with monopolies, but so long as the fisherman complied willj the regulations he could not be interfered with. He advised all concerned to confer and agree upon some fair and equitable recommendation to govern the points in dispute, which he would be pleased to favourably consider and recommend to the Department. Those present decided to act on Mr Ays on’s suggestion.
