THE MASCOTS.
At the Town Hall to-night the management of the Mascots will present at enormous expense their great magical extravaganza of the Orient, assisted by a company of first-class vaudeville artists, different from the usual run of performers, in that each and every member is a star. Modesko, a great magician, attired in Chinese robes of pure silk, with a setting which is one of the most gorgeous ever presented on an Australasian stage, to the accompaniment of true Eastern music, will present some wonderful illusions, including the “Russian Trunk” and the “Flame Invisible.” He was given a great reception during the highly successful season which closed at the Palace Theatre, Palmerston N., last night. The original replica of the Palace of Pekin, where Modeska appears amid a beautiful odour of incense, a truly Eastern atmosphere being maintained, is a marvel of stagecraft. Assisting Modesko will be Margaret Graham, a. dainty and charming soubrette, who will sing the latest song successes of England and America. She was forced to submit to triple encores in Palmerston. AY. Noble, Scotch instrumentalist of exceptional ability, and piper, who played the pipes in true Scotch fashion. An act of rare artistry is that of Clyde Brooks, whose impersonations of great musicians is without parallel. His pianologue, “The Movie Serial,” is a scream. Next are the Carltons, Indians who lariat a lasso in an act that set Palmerston wondering. They also give a true Sioux Indian, war dance. They work with an exact replica of the Indian camp of Arizona as a background. The Laviolas, with their beautiful French Court costumes, contribute with a lightning sketch act with rag and crayon, which concludes a firstclass entertainment. The scenery and effects will be carried by the company. Prices on a popular scale, 3s, 2s, and Is, plus tax, will admit you to the finest vaudeville show yet offered a Foxton audience.
