THEFT OF BUTTER.

Hamilton, Sept. 8

in the Supreme Court, Robert Stewart, his wife May Stewart, and William’ Couck were charged with being concerned in,the theft of 3.1591 b. of butter from the Wailiou butter factory, valued at £329. Lionel Goodwin, formerly manager of the factory, who had pleaded guilty to stealing the butter, said he was Jed to the theft by Stewart, who was in the company's employ, and that Stewart took the butter and disposed of it as home-made dairy butter. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of receiving the stolen butter against Stewart, and not guilty again-! May. Stewart and Couck. His Honour sentenced Goodwin and Stewart to a year’s imprisonment.
