“HELP THE MOTHERS.”

Saturday’s shop day in aid of Foxton’s quota to the above fund, was an even greater financial success than the previous Saturday, the total takings amounting to £32 Os 3d. The shop was in charge of Mrs Green, Misses Barber (2}j Neylon (2), Robinson (2), and Green. The gifts were numerous, and included a sheep by Mr D. Purcell, iced cake by Mrs Green, dinner by Mrs W. E. Barber, motor return trip to Wellington by .Mr Peel, cushion by Mrs Kennedy, and box of chocolates by Mr Perreau, and Mr W. E. Barber price of a sheep. All the above were disposed of by guessing competitions, in which the keenest interest was 'evinced, particularly in the sheep and motor trip. The winners of the competitions were as follows: —Mr Head (motor trip), Mr Haydock (sheep, correct guess fiDJlbs.), Mr Watson (cushion), Mr W. E. Barber (dinner, which was resold to Mr Chas. Spiers, who donated it to an aged couple, who desire to specially thank Mr Spiers Jfor his thoughtfulness), Mrs Jewell (cake), Miss Inez Austin (chocolates). Masters Kelvin Green and Walter Freeman collected 14s by means of ,i copper trail. The Committee desire to thank all who forwarded gifts, and to the public for generous

support. Mrs Dnvev informed us this morning that so far Moutoa- has raised £lB, with possibly a little more to come in. Moutoa has done splendidly, and great credit is due to Mrs Davey for her organising abili!y. The social last Friday night was a great success. Mr Hamer has promised that, provided Foxton’s quota does uot reach the objective aimed at this week, he will give the gross takings >f a benefit picture entertainment.

The complete results of Foxton’s efforts will be published on Saturday.

A meeting of the Foxton Flying Squadron was held yesterday afternoon to discuss a final effort to raise Foxton’s quota for the St. Helen's Hospital. Several schemes were liscussed, and it was finally decided to hold a “Hard Up” dance in Hie Town Hall on Friday evening. The prices of admission were fixed at gents 3s, ladies Is and basket. It mas decided to give two prizes to ilie wearer of the best hard up dress ■morn by lady and gentleman. Furiher details were left in the hands of the committee, viz., Mesdames Pearson, Green, Symons, Misses Robinson (2), Barber (2), Neylon (2). It is hoped that (his effort, while providing a good evening’s' amusement, will result in augmenting the funds by at least £lO.

THE FOOTBALL MATCH

The famous football match, “All Blacks” v. “Springboks, attract a record crowd to the racecourse to-morrow afternoon. Besides the keen interest the game should arouse, other amusing items will be submitted. The admission to the match is Is, children (id. Mr J. Wvetli has kindly offered to give his services as gate steward.
