BANNED LITERATURE.
SEQUEL TO COURT ACTION,
STUDENT DEPRIVED OF PRIVILEGES.
Recently a Training College student, Reid wig Wcitzcl, was convicted at the Wellington Magistrate's Court on a charge of selling Tim Communist, which encouraged vioenee. The Wellington Education Board, in conjunction with the Education Department, has taken action u the matter, and it is understood ;hai the studentship at the Training College has been terminated, and that the offender is not to receive any further employment in the tea.•hing service. Moreover, her leaclier's certificate has, under clause 58 of I lie regulations, been canceled for gross misbehaviour within ilie meaning of the clause. It is further understood that, at the instance of the Minister of Education (the Hon. C. J. Parr) inquiries are being made in regard to other .-indents.
Tn reference to Ihe above, the Education authorities have incurred the anger of certain elements :ii the Labour movement in AA'ellington. At a meeting of the combined Labour Party branches in Wellington. held on Tuesday, in the Trades flail, the following resolution is reported to have been passed unanimously:—“That Ibis meeting of the members of the various branches of the New Zealand Labour Party condemns the mean and contemptible action of the Education authorities in victimising Miss AVeitzcl, a young and brilliant student at the Training College; and calls the attention of the workers of New Zealand to this latest and meanest, action of the Prussianising caste and its puppets.”
