At Wellington on Saturday, the Wellington B reps, defeated Marlborough by 20 points to 13. The Wellington louring reps, defeated Taranaki, at New Plymouth on Saturday, by 17 points to nil.
New South Wales defeated Buller tit Westport on Saturday, bv 25 points to 11.
The Wairarapa senior representatives had no difficulty in defeating Horowhenua, at Carterton on Saturday. Play was of a very onesided character, and at no period did Horowhenua appear to have a winning chance. Play was vigorous, and the game was repeatedly stopped through players being knocked out. When the final bell sounded Wairarapa was leading by 23 points to 3.
Otago defeated South Canterbury, at Timaru, by 14 points to 8.
Hawkes Bay defeated Poverty Bay, at Napier, by 12 points to 3. Wellington juniors outclassed Alanawatu, at Palmerston, by 22 points to fi.
In ihe primary schools tournament at Wanganui on Saturday, Alanawatu (13) defeated Wanganui (fi), and Wairarapa (13)''defeated Wellington (8).
SPRINGBOKS WIN THE SECOND
TEST MATCH.
About 40,000 people witnessed Ihe second test match at Auckland on Saturday, when the Springboks met and defeated New Zealand by it point- to 5. The scores about indicate ihe difference between the teams on the day's play. McLean scored for New Zealand, and Nicholas conversion was a magnificent kick. Scndin scored for Springbok-, which Gerhard Alorkel converted. The Springbok- other score wa- obtained by Gerhard Morkel taking a running kick, nearly fifty yards from the post-, and landing a magnificent goal, which gave the Springbok.- the victory by four points. PRELIMINA RY SELECTION. Auckland, Aug. 27. The following were selected tonight to assemble at Wellington to go into camp, probably at Trentliam, to train for ten days before the third test:— Backs —Kingston, Evans, Steele, Ifwersoii, Ford, Markham, Algal', Roberts, H. E. Xieholls, and Mark Nieholls, Forwards Donald, Fogarty, Duncan, McLean, Motfit, Richardson, Beilis, West, Turnbull, and Fletcher. MEETING OF UNION. A meeting of the Management Committee of the. Horowhenua Rugby Union was held tit Levin last pigUt. Present: Messrs Whibiey
(chairman), Ford, Rowlands, George and Higgins (secretary), A letter was read from the King Country Rugby Union, advising that their rep. team was playing Wellington as n curtain-raiser to the Third Test match, and asking if a match could be. arranged with* Horowhenua, to be played on their way to Wellington, or on their return. and if so, they asked that a portion of the gate be allocated to them to assist in defraying their expenses. —It was decided to reply, suggesting September 14th as a suitable date, at Levin, and offering 75 per cent, of the net gate.
The Bebbington Shield match, Rangifikei v. Horowhenua, was fixed for September 10th.
The Secretary’s action in arranging a junior representative match between Manawafu and Horowhenua, to be played at Otaki on September 3rd, was confirmed, and it was decided to play the final in the junior competition, between Parapa raumn and Weraroa, as a cur-tain-raiser to the Rangitikei-Horo-whenua rep. match on September 10th.
A deputation from the Old Boys Club (Otaki) waited on the Union, and asked that the matter of the Club's disqualification be re-con-sidered. The Club had been disqualified for playing a player (Ahern) after the Union had decided that Ahern could not be played as a junior. Members of the deputation explained that Ahern had been played under a misapprehension, a ltd had they known the position they certainly would not haveplayed him. —The Committee decided to accept the explanation, and to remove the disqualification. Messrs Procter, Ford and Higgin- were appointed a committee to draw up conditions and make arrangements for (lie competition for the Cup presented by Otaki supporters. The Cup is for a junior competition, and all matches are to lie played at Otaki. The Foxron fourth grade team protested against a recent win by High School, on the ground that the High School team included a player (Procter) who was over age. —It was explained that According to the school register Procter was under age, but it bad since been found that I lie register was wrong. —It was decided that a final match be played between Fusion and High School to decide the competition, the match to be played at Fox ton on Saturday.
