LITTLE GIRL'S DEATH.
A WARNING TO CHILDREN,
-Auckland, Yesterday
That the habit of school children and others in eating ice picked up at random on frosty mornings is decidedly dangerous has been emphasised by a- tragic happening at Putaruni lately. This habit- is common among school children in the Waikato, where frosts are frequent in the winter months, and one morning during a recent cold snap two young children of a local settler indulged in it, having seen fellow-scholars at Putaruru school doing likewise. Later the two lit lie ones, one a girl and the other a boy, became ill, apparently as the result of this, and, their condition becoming worse, they had to be removed to the hospital in Hamilton. Here they Mill grew worse, and ultimately the little girl died, despite strenuous efforts to save her life, and the latest advice regarding the l>oy was that he continued to he seriously ill. It is presumed that the ice which affected the children was from stagnant or other tainted water.
