GAS MANAGER’S REPORT
The amount of gas manufactured during the month of July shows a decrease over the corresponding period of hist. year. It may be noted, however, that- the unaccounted for gas is not- so high. July last year there, were 18 meters not registering, while last month there were only four. Fifty-two tons of coal was carbonised, and we sold 19 tons 15 ewt of coke, representing £49 7s Od. The large amount, of coke sold is the result of working only the one bed of six retorts. The bed of two retorts is now complete and ready for use. The No. 2 holder has been scraped and painted, and the bottom plate of the tank Cor No. 1 holder was in such a bad condition that it- also lias been scraped and painted. During the month three meters were changed, and seven services cleared of water and sand. The main across Futter Street, supplying four services, was full of water, and had to be altered. The sinking of Ihe'sand in Johnston Street, near Union Street, caused a three-quarter service to break off at the main.”
