FLOOD IN THE MANAWATU
The recent heavy rains have brought down a flood "in the Manawatu. At S o’clock last night Woodville reported that the Manawatu was 12ft. Gin. above normal, and a farther message this morning stated that the river was falling rapidly. Yesterday there was a depth of about four feet of water on the Foxion-Shannon road at Mouton, and the flood water was running over the Foxton-Levin road at Whirokino to a depth of about a foot.
The flood water was also entering the Moutoa swamp.
Mr Clement L. Wragge, referring io the present storm, says:—The isobars of the very remarkable low pressure disturbance named Demoned still cover the country, while the centre is south-east from the Chatham Islands. High pressure is gradually approaching from the Tasman Sea. This delineation means further unsettled and rainy weather with electric disturbances, especially in all eastern pans, but these conditions should soon improve as pressure recovers. Winds chiefly from between west-south-west and south, increasing in velocity as the barometer rises. Rising to rough seas.”
