FORTNIGHTLY MFETING
The fortlightly meeting of the Borough Council was.held in the Council Chambers last night. CORRESPONDENCE.
Correspondence whs read and dealt with as follows: — From Mr Blackmail, Maslerlun, staling that he would he pleased to visit Foxton and report on the gas works, his fee being £ls 15s, and out of pocket travelling expenses. ■ Decided that Air Blackman’s offer lie accepted as per terms submitted.
From the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, urging the Council to take steps to secure two acres of land adjoining Easton Park.
Decided that the Council regrets that it is inopportune at present In take steps to secure the two acres adjoining Easton Park, on account of the successive difficulties in the way of obtaining a clear title. The Mayor stated that they already had sufficient ground in the borough for recreation purposes, and that every rood that they took hack they lost certain rales on. and that by losing rates on one properly if had to he put on to another.
From Messrs Climic and Son, Mating that they were willing to make a plan' of the Foxton Borough, scale same as the last one, viz., two chains to the inch, and showing all sections and subdivisions of same with areas, also reticulation lines of water and sewerage schemes, for £-12. After the whole of the wal eland sewerage scheme is completed they would also show all house connections, fire plugs, and manholes in the plan without further cost.
Decided that Messrs Climie and Son’s offer be accepted. INSANITARY DWELLINGS AND HEALTH INSPECTION.
From the Chamber of Commerce, recommending the Council to go into the question of insanitary buildings within the borough. It was moved by Cr. Smith, and seconded by Cr. Martn, that the Health Inspector be instructed to make an inspection of the borough with a view to: (1) Condemning any buildings which are beyond repair and unfit for habitation; (2) calling upon the owners of houses, etc., to effect repairs and improvements in order that the health of the tenants may be safeguarded; (3) generally report to the Council the result of such inspection not later than six weeks from date.—Carried. Cr. Smith said that the inspector should make a house to house inspection of the borough. Cr. Martin stated that some of the houses were good, but some were the reverse. He knew of some buildings where the surface water ran unefer the houses. The only modern part about them was the raising of
the rent. In some cases there were no wash-house. He also said that, there were a number of old .sheds as well as houses that wanted pulling down.
LIBRARIAN
It was decided that Miss I. Lacey be appointed Librarian, at a salary of 6s per week.
TENDER
It was decided to call fresh tenders for the erection of. an additional room at the Pound Cottage.
