ROYAL PICTURES

A desperate struggle staged in •‘Silk Hosiery,” Enid Bennett’s latest Paramount picture, which will be shown at the Royal to-morrow (Wednesday) evening, is no man-to-man combat, but a contest of angry women, with hatpins flying, and a gleaming dagger flushing in the dim light. Miss Bennett, as Marjorie Bowen, a modiste’s model, finds a jewel and a letter that she has been sent to obtain, in the possession of an unscrupulous woman, and she battles effectively for their recovery. Her antagonist, Marie Pa vis, well known emotional actress, is Alis.' Bennett’s equal in size and .strength, so that both nursed scratches and bruises for several days afterwards. Their gowns were badly torn, and there were enormous, casualties, in hairpins. Director Xiblo sighed in relief when the scene-was completed. “You never can tell what a woman will do with a dagger,” he remarked wisely, but from the resultant wounds it would appear that fingernails did more damage than the flashing steel. The picture is a delightful one, and presents Enid Bennett in an unusually novel role. It is thrilling, and there is much enjoyable comedy. There will also be shown a Mack Sennett comedy, “Ladies First,” and an episode of “The Silent Avenger.” Prices will be fid and Is Id.
