FREE SCHOOL REQUISITES
Regarding the supply of school requisites, the secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute (Mr il. A. Parkinson) has written to the Minister for Education (the Hon. C. J. Parr) approving of the steps taken to lighten the burden of parents, but again presenting tlie case for a ’complete free supply of requisites. It is contended that the case rest' un three principal contentions: First, it is economical; second, it is logical; third, it is just. "As to the first of these there can be no question. If the Government, regarding itself as the agent of the wliolo community, bought the whole of the requsiles for the schools of the community, il could buy at only a fraction of the cost that a section of the community has to pay at present. The principle has for years been acknowledged in other Government departments, and even in ihe Education Department itself.*’
