Auckland, Last Night

At the Police Court, Robert Wilson, a labourer, single, aged 44, was charged with having left an indecent publication at the house of a suburban resident. He was also charged,-under the Indecent Publications Act, in respect to a second letter written by accused to the daughter of a resident. Counsel said he would formally proffer a plea of not guilty, iis he* desired to argue a question of law, that whilst his client’s letters might certainly he classed as insulting. They were not indecent within the strict meaning ol the Act. The police said Unit neither the girl nor her sisters knew the man. Accused was lined £2O. and placed on probation for live years.
