ANOTHER MURDER
LABOURERS’ QUARREL ENDS
IN TRAGEDY,
MAN SURRENDERS TO POLICE.
Wanganui, July 22
The police received word to-night that a murder was committed at Mangamahu this evening. As far as can he gathered, George Gordon, a single man aged 5(5, and John Kinsella, a single man aged 30. both casual labourers, were at an hotel during the afternoon. They had a few drinks, and then went to Gordon’s wliarc. They evidently quarrelled, and Kinsella killed Gordon with an axe. e Kinsella announced the tragedy and gave himself up to the Wanganui police.
The police motored to Mangamahu, and late to-night returned with Kinsella and the body of Gordon.
No further particular are available at present.

Later. The police arrived after midnight. It appears that Kinsella and Gordon had been drinking heavily. The former, when arrested, said Gordon lav down in the where and
asked me to cut his “b head off.” Kinsella then said he got an axe and struck Gordon with it. There was evidence of two blows on the back and the front of the neck, the blade on each occasion penetrating the spinal column. Dr. Anderson, who accompanied the police to arrest the accused, said that death had been instantano-

Mangamahu is a small settlement 25 miles easi of Wanganui, on tlio south hank of the Wangaehu river.
