HEALTH AND SCHOOL ATTENDANCE.

IT is very commendable on the part of parents to endeavour to keep up the school attendance by sending their children to school regularly, and the majority of local children are just as keen to attend. Iliis is as it should be; provided the child is well, but if there is any symptom of sickness or disease apparent in the child, the pare/it, in the interest of the child and the health of other children, should keep the scholar at home until medical advice or simple treatment clears up suspicion. In this connection we desire to impress upon'parents section 80 of the Health Act: “When any person is suffering from any sickness the symptoms of which create a reasonable suspicion that it is a notifiable infectious disease, it shall be the duty of the occupier or other person for the time being in which such person is living to consult a medical practitioner, or to notify the local authority of the district of the ex-

istence of a disease suspected to be

a notifiable infectious disease.” It is only by isolating such caffes that the school attendances can be maintained and the health of the community protected.
