Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, JULY 21, 1921. MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS.

AT Monday night'- meeting' of the Borough Council, (Jr. Coley will move that initial .step* bo taken in eonneetion with the erection ol.‘ Municipal Chambers and Public Beading' Room and Library, to replace the structure destroyed by tire. The insurance on the building destroyed, about £1.200, is on deposit, and this amount will have to be supplemented by a further loan of from £3,000 to £4,000 to provide for the erection of the new edifice. We believe the ratepayers will sanction the loan, as the rate to provide interest and sinking fund will not be large, and posterity will bear its share. The question of procuring the money at a reasonable rate of interest in the present state of the money market may be a little dillicult, but not insurmountable. The conditions under which the work of the office staff is conducted, and Council meetings held, should not be prolonged indefinitely, and we hope that Cr. Coley’s motion will result in something definite being done at an early date.
