ST. JOHN’S AMBULANCE BRIGADE.
Miss Robieson, travelling lecturer for the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade, visited Foxton on Thursday; and was met by the Mayor and Cr. Coley, who extended a welcome to the visitor on behalf of the citizens. In the evening an address was given. Ilis Worship the Mapor presided, and introduced Miss Robieson, who proceeded to outline the history of the Order, which she stated was one of the oldest orders in existence, and that recently the Government had given them official recognition. In addition to being officially recognised, the Government had made a grant of £IOO to each of the four centres, and was helping in many ways in the establishment of homq nursing and first aid classes. The lecturer further expounded the benefits of the first aid classes to people in all walks of life, and said that one never knew when the knowledge of even the rudiments of first aid might be the means of saving human life through accident cases. The ladies present decided to form themselves into a committee to see if sufficient names would be .forthcoming to form a class in Foxton. In this connection it should be stated that the uinimum age for joining the class would be sixteen, as students under this age would noj be eligible to sil for the medallion which is awarded by the Association to successful candidates. The fee for the full course would be 7s Cd, which, with the Manual, would amount to 10s. Any persons interested and willing to join a class should communicate with Mrs Trueman, who will give them further particulars. At the conclusion of the address the Mayor tendered a vote of thanks to Miss Robieson for lier interesting address.
