BOROUGH COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING

At last night’s “Borough Council meeting correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: — From Mr W. Sexton, a former Council employee, making application for the bonus due to him at 9s per week, dating from the Ist November to December 3rd, amounting to £2 5s. —Decided that the Department of Labour be communicated with and asked to supply a copy of the award, also that full enquiries be made re wages and bonus to road staff.

From the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, forwarding a recommendation to the Borough Council to investigate the ownership, and endeavour to secure, the piece of land between Easton Park and the cordial factory, which, if added to the Dark, would prove a valuable asset, which would improve the reserve for cricket and football. — Received.

From the Manawatu Comity Council, in reply to a letter froni the Council re loan of a road grader, stating that both graders are in use at present, and will be required for some time, and that they would advise the Council*when one is available. —Received.

From St. John’s Ambulance, stating that the Committee has decided to send two of its lady officers of the St. John’s Ambulance nursing division to Foxton to address a public meeting, to endeavour to organise classes in First Aid and Home Nursing. Miss Robinson and Mrs Barlirop propose to speak, and would the Council arrange for the use of the Council Chambers for the meeting. Also that the Fire Brigade should be urged to attend the meeting, and would the Mayor preside? —Decided that the Town Clerk he authorised to obtain the Town Hall • supper-room for the evening, and make necessary arrangements for the lecture.

From Raupi Tangari, applying for an asphalt culvert leading from the Avenue Road to his premises on the north side of the Avenue, and that lie would pay cost of same, —Application granted. • From Mr Reid, stating that he does not wish to continue as librarian after the expiration of the present period. — Referred to Library Committee, with power to act.

From the Moutoa Drainage Board, offering a quantity of timber for sale. —Referred to the Water and Drainage Committee to report at next meeting.

From the Willard Home, thanking Council for 'the donation of £5.Received.
