PASSENGER’S REFUSAL.

Auckland, Last Night

v A passenger by the Makura from Vancouver this morning, John Alexander McNaughton, refused to take the oath of allegiance, and consequently was not permitted to land. McNaughton is a single man, 39 years of age, and is a British subject, both bis parents having been born in Scotland. lie is travelling through to Sydney, and it is understood he will make a similar refusal to take the oath of allegiance in Australia, the reason for his objection being one of conscience.
