MOUTOA FLAX LAND AND TAXATION.
When a deputation of llaxmillers waited upon the Hon. A. Xosworihy. Minister of Agriculture, at the Showgrounds this week, Mr >T. H. Stevens, as trustee of the estate ol the late Mr John Stevens, referred the system of taxation of flax lands, with particular reference to lho Mouton estate of -1,000 acres. There were, lie said, nine beneficiaries of the estate, on which the land tax last year amounted to £2,530 and the local bodies’ tax to £1,031, which was a large amount to have to pay. He also pointed out that half the value of the growing [lax was added to the value of the hmd for taxation purposes, alth-
ough the llax was only cut every tour vent's. He asked the Minister lo give the matter his sympathetic attention, and bring it under the notice of the Commissioner of Taxos, The Minister, in reply, promised (o' confer with the Minister of Finance on the question—Standard.
