ROYAL PICTURES
At the Royal this evening the great Le Roi will reappear in a complete change of programme. In addition there will ■be an Owen Moore special, “The Despei’ate Hero,” a rollicking comedy-drama, in which the hero starts blithely out to the country in a small motor — his only possession—to escape a tailor creditor. As a result of his efforts to avert the tailor’s sumirons he finds himself bound into servitude for his two weeks to the husband of a former sweetheart. A strange woman claims him for her husband, much to his disgust, am? a number of other incidents occur to make him feel the heavy hand of misfortune. As an extra there will be a further episode of “The Silent Avenger.” “The Brand of Popez,” to be shown on Friday, is a melodrama with a host of rapid action and exciting moments. Sessue Hayakawa, who has the leading role, plays the part of a Spanish matador, who later becomes an outlaw. To begin with, the picture contains a duel, and there follows more s;wifflymoving action, which shows the central character as an., outlaw, limning a village out of hatred, and finally taking wlmt he thinks is a revenge worth a.waiting for.
