BOOKMAKERS ARRESTED AT. MASTERTON.
MaSterton, Monday
On Saturday the police arrested three alleged bookmakers for being concerned in the management of an alleged gaming house. Those arrested were AY. Powell, tobacconist; L. Crass, tobacconist; and Jeremiah Cuff, billiard saloon attendant'. Miss D. Clarke, employed by Powell in his shop, /ind a young man, his assistant, were also apprehended by the police, and later bailed out. It is understood that the latter are to be charged with being found on the premises of an alleged gaming house; the others will probably be charged in connection with its management. The accused were brought before Justices, and allowed out on bail. Crass found bail for £SO, with a surety for £SO; Powell furnished the same amounts, and Cuff £2O. They were ordered to appear before Mr S. L. P. Free, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 27th inst.
