- MARCH WORKING

The amount of pa ft manufactured during the month of March was 5-17,000 ft., which, with the amount in holder on March ls(, 16,000 ft., made a total of 563,000 ft. The amount sold to consumers for lighting was 182,000 ft., for cooking 210,600 ft., and power 76,100 ft.; 23,000 ft. were used in street lamps, 22,500 at the works and Manager’s

house, and- there was 15,000 ft. in the holder on Ist April, leaving 529,200 ft., representing 6 per cent of the output, unaccounted for. Fifty tons of coal was carbonised, yielding 10,940 c. ft. per ton. The earnings for the month totalled £264 11s 2d, made up as fol-lows:—-Gas sales (lighting) £IOB 19s sd, heat and power £127 4s 6d, coke sales £l2 7s Od, tar sales £23s Od, fittings account £l3 14s 3d, miscellaneous 3s. The expenditure was as follows: Coal £l2l 4s 2d, salaries, wages and labour £l4 12s lid, fittings £1 9s 4d, repairs £1 16s (id, tools 15s, plant £8 16s 9d, insurance £6 7s fid, printing and advertising £8 9s 3d, freight, wharfage and cartage Is Bd, miscellaneous £3, interest and sinking fund £59 11s Bd, total £286 4s 9d. GAS MANAGER’S REPORT. The Gas Works Manager submitted the following report: —

“I beg to report that the amount of gas registered by the station meter during the month of April wa.q 549,000 c. ft., which is an increase of 34,500 e. ft. The increase of 34,500 c. ft. at a nett cost of 9s 7d represents the sum of £l6 10s 7d over the corresponding period of last year. I have not finished the meter reading this month, but so far have found 5 meters not registering. Seven meters were changed lastmonth. During the month the connection was made for two new purifiers, and one is working and giving every satisfaction. The new iron was put on the stokchouse roof, and the top will be painted at the first opportunity. Five services have been cleared of water and sand, and three new meters have been connected up. I hope to have the 2-inch main for Perreau’s building ,and also the school, fitted Up this week.”
