FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the above was held in the Council Chamber on Thursday night. Mr W. E.'Barber presided over a small attendance. The annual report and balancesheet were read and adopted, and were as follows: —
“Your Committee has much pleasure in presenting the Annual Report for the twelve months just ended. During the year no special efforts have been made to raise money for the fund. We were most unfortunate in losing the services of the Rev. W. Raine, our president, who was transferred to Martinborough, and Mr W. E. Barber was elected president in his stead. The work of the Committee has been the administration of the funds and careful consideration of the many and varied applications made to the Society for assistance. Finance: The year started with funds in hand of £3,17!) 17s lOd, and has ended with £2,887 13s lOd. Expenditure totalling £732 2s 5d is made up primarily of grants and loans to soldi-, ers and their dependants, which together total £O9O 5s 2d. Administrative charges amount to £34 2s sd, representing less than one per cent, of the turnover.’’
Statement of receipts and expenditure, Ist April, 1920, to 31st March, 1921: —Receipts: Balance at Ist April, 1920, £3,179 17s lOd; interest, money on deposit, £llO 8s 9d; Repayments loans to soldiers, £3OB 3s Od; refunds from other Societies, £l3 19s Od; Imperial Supplies Dept., wool profits, 13s 8d; sale of chair, Patriotic Shop, ss; refund contribution Blind Soldiers’ Fund, £33 6s 8d; members’ subscriptions. 3s; total receipts, £3,040 17s lid. Expenditure: Grants to soldiers and dependants £236 12s 4d; loans to soldiers £453 1.2 s 10(1; Advisory Board (contribution Blind Soldiers’ after-care £33 0s Bd, disablement. return £l, levy 10s), £34 10s 8(1; printing and advertising, £4 Is Od: stationery, £1 16s 4d: miscellaneous expenses (interest on overdraft 4s 6d, telegrams, bureaux, etc. 5.-. 9d, hire Council Chambers 10s, exchange 2.> 6d). £1 2s 9d; secretary's honorarium (13 months) £27 Is 8d; balance, 3Js| March, 1921 (P.O. Savings Bank £I,OOO, Bank of X.Z. £I,OOO, current account £BB7 13s lOd) £2,887 13s 10d; total £3,646 17s lid. The following officers were elected President, Mr \Y.-E. Barber; vice-presidents, Messrs John Clirystall and A. G. Huntley; committee, Mesdames F. Robinson, R. McMurlay and Miss Sewell, Messrs J. Burr, Ilornblow, E. Pigott, F. Shaw, and H. 11. Podmorc, J. Thomson and Tunnicliffc (representing Returned Soldiers); secret ary and treasurer, Mr Win. Trueman,
The incoming Committee was recommended to find a more profitable investment for surplus funds. Votes of thanks were accorded I lie President and Committee. A meeting of Committee was subsequently held, when a loan was sanctioned and relief allowances granted.
It. was decided to obtain a list of all returned soldiers within the Socielv's area for reference.
