The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated Kith ins!., from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Meat. — Trade slow, demand is limited, and prices have tendency downwards owing to large supply of imported beef. March shipments of frozen and chilled beef to Great Britain exceed 700,000 quarters. New Zealand mutton, lightweight, By<l to Dd per lb., heavyweight difficult to sell at BLI per lb. ' Lamb, new season's, Is 2d to Is 3d per lb.: from America, Is Old to Is Id peril).; Government cut lamb, no demand at Is per lb., and reduction of price is under consideration. New Zealand beef, prices irregular, ox. hinds (id to 0,(1, fores -id to 5d per II)., hut inferior quality and cow selling about as low as 4Ad and 3d per lb. Butler. —English price has declined to £lO 10s per ewt, (3s per ib.): Irish, now £l4 10s to £l4 15s per ewt, (2s 7d to 2s 7-Id per lb.); Danish, demand is decreasing on account of high price, and price ha.- declined to £l3 ,I.os to £l4 2s per ewt. (2s s id to 2s (id pet- lb.). Official quotations are: New Zealand £l3 Os to £l3 10s per ewt. (2s -Ud to 2s 43d per lb.); Australian, £l2 8s to £l2 12s per ewt. (2s 2Jd to 2s 3d per ib.); Argentine, £l2 2s to £l2 12s per ewt. (2s l ; jd to 2s 3d per lb.). « Cheese. —Canadian, stocks small, white £7 4s to £7 10s per ewt. (Is 3'd to Is 4 : |d per lb), coloured, £8 to £8 2s per ewt. (approx. Is 5d per ib.): N w Zealand, white, £0 14s to

On account of slriko rondilions, quotations are governed principally by availability for immediate delivery. Wool.—Sales closed yesterday. Towards the end there was improved demand, which has resulted in larger proportion of offerings being sold. Principal support came from France, Belgium and Germany, though Home trade took fair quantity notwithstanding anxiety caused by threatened strike. Average closing values were 60V to 04 V (Merino) Is to 3s 2d per lb.: 56V (super halfbred) 1.13 dto Is Id per lb.; 50V (half-bred) 93 d to lid per lb.; -38’s (line cross-bred) 8d to lOd per lb.; 44V to 46V (medium crossbred) 03d to 83(1 per lb): 30V lo 40V (course cross-bred) 5d to 63d per lb. Total offerings were 52.000 bales privately owned wool, of which 42,400 were Australian and 0,700 New Zealand. Of these, the following were sold: —Australian 32,200 bales, New Zealand 5,000 bales.
