The Manager of the Royal has just returned from Wellington, where he secured sole rights to show the famous Selznielc pictures, the first of which will be screened next Wednesdav.
The head teacher (Mr Fume) of the local State School ha.s arranged a ceremony for to-morrow afternoon. at the school, in commemoration of Anzac Day. The school will observe a holiday on Monday.
The Pox ten Auctioneering Company will sell prime beef and mutton !>y auction at their mart, Avenue Road, on Saturday morning, commencing at 9.30 o'clock sharp. Payers are requested to firing their own wrappers, Aleut sales will in future be bold twice weekly? Saturdays and Tuesdays, at 9.30 a.m.
There was a fall in milk yesterday morning. One of the local milk delivery carts, startled by the noise of a motor cycle, during the temporary absence of the driver, careered along various streets, leaving behind a milky trail. The carl overturned while negotiating the Duncan Street corner. Except for the loss of milk, no further damage was done.
The members of All Saints’ Ladies;’ Guild tendered an “all sorts’’ afternoon to Aliss \ era Crowe, in All Saints’ schoolroom yesterday afternoon, in honour of her approaching wedding. The room was nicely decorated by the Sunday school teachers, and afternoon tea was provided by the Guild. There was a large attendance, and vocal items were given by Alesdames Freeman, Cannonl, and Aliss Hawke, and a chorus by several young ladies. Prior to the display of gifts, which were numerous and useful, a pleasing ceremony took place, when little Aliss Alajory Hunt, on behalf of the teachers and scholars of the Sunday school, presented the guest with a pair of silver vases, in recognition of her services in connection with the school. Alesdames Walton and A. S. Easton officiated as hostesses. The proceedings closed with the singing of “She's a Jolly Good Fellow.” One evening last week the choir, of which Aliss Crowe is a member, entertained her at the vicarage, and the Rev. \Y. Walton, on behalf of the choir, presented Aliss Crowe with a silver hot-water .jug, and extended to the guest the good wishes uf all for her future happiness.
