He understood that some of the present councillors would not seek re-election. Ho went on to say that all councillors should have an opportunity of occupying the Mayoral chair, and that in the coming election if any one of them wished to stand for the Mayoralty,
and was supported by a majority of the Councillors, he would stand down, but that he would contest the seat against anyone outside the Council.

Cr. McMurray moved that the Mayor’s honorarium be increased to, £SO. | In speaking to the motion, Cr. McMurray stated that £SO was little enough for the work that was required of the Mayor, especially now that the water, and drainage scheme was being carried out. He did not consider that the present amount, £25, would cover one twentieth of the expenses incurred by the Mayor. He stated that that meeting was his last. Ho was quite satisfied, and that one thing he was certain of was that no one came to the Council merely to grind his own axe. Cr. Thompson endorsed Cr. McMurray’? remarks. Referring to the Mayor, he added that he hoped to see the present Mayor occupy the elia f ir for a long time to come, and I hat' the majority of the Council as now constituted would be re-elect-ed.
