THE LOCAL PORT

CONFERENCE OF PALMERSTON AND FOXTON CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE. A deputation from the local Chamber of Commerce, consisting of Messrs Homblow (president), Barr, Christie, Moir, and Jno. Ross, wailed upon the Palmerston Chamber, at Palmerston, last night, in connection with certain allegations which had been made prejudicial to the local port at a recent meeting of the Palmerston Chamber. The deputation received a hearty welcome from the president (Mr 11. L. Young) and other members of the Palmerston Chamber. The proceedings were taken in committee, and a full and free discussion was entered into and many misunderstandings in connection with the handling of goods at the local port cleared up. Both Cham-, bers agreed to heartily co-operate with the Harbour Board in an endeavour to promote the welfare of the port and the advancement of district commercial interests. It was suggested that periodical conferences take place between the two Chambers in future.
