BEACH IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.
The life-saving reel for the local seaside resort is iioav finished, excepting the final coat of paint, which will be put on at the beach It is mounted on motor bicycle Avheels, or can be canned, if necessary, and is light, yet strongly constructed. The beach committee desire to thank the following Palmerston business firms for their generosity and assistance Adam Burgess, Bett and Baylv, Ideal, Nonpareil, A. A. "Wood, cycle shops; A. F. Martin, Ilolben and Kirk, Lewis and Coutts; also for donations: Foxton Harbour Board £5, per W. Bock (Foxton), £2 17s. The expenses to date are £3 12s Gd. The committee do not propose to purchase the line, etc., or erect the shed, until later on in the year, hoping material Avill be cheaper. The shed will need to he large enough to house the reel and provide a dressing room for members of a life-sav-ing club. For this purpose more donations are necessary.
During the Easter holidays visitors to the beach arranged on two nights a social and dance to raise funds to purchase crockery for the hall. Both nights were very enjoyable, and the sum of £5 3s has been paid over. For this amount the committee express their thanks.
