PRICE OF BUTTER.

AUCKLAND GROCERS. PRICE 2s 8d PER Lb. Auckland, March 31. The following statement was issued by the Auckland grocers:— “It lias been decided to fix the margin of profit for butter at 12J per cent, profit, for cash over the counter, and T 5 per cent, for booking and delivery, as from April Ist.” The above margin! will not show the grocers any profit, hut an actual loss as their working trade expenses are now fully 20 per cent., brought about by shorter hours, further bonus, and higher wages. This on the basis of 2s 44d per lb. wholesale for butter works out at 2s 8d per lb. retail, for cash across the counter, and a penny extra for booked and delivered. AT CHRISTCHURCH. Christchurch, March 31. Local grocers have been notified by the dairy companies that the retail price of butter has been fixed at 2s Gd per pound on and after tomorrow until further notice. MORE NOTICE WANTED. Christchurch, March 31. The Christchurch grocers have been notified that the retail price of butter as from to-morrow will be 2s fid per lb. The trade thinks that more notice might have been given.
