BOROUGH ARTESIAN BORE
FLOW OF 3,000 GALLONS PER HOUR.
At a. depth of 192 feet the first artesian bore for the borough water and drainage scheme gives a flow of 3,000 gallons per hour, or 86,400 gallons per 24 hours, sufficient to provide 48 gallons per capita on a population basis of 1,800. The source is tapped at what is considered its minifnum at this time of the year, so that a probable‘increase at a later period may he expected. There is no sediment in the outflow. Another bore will be put down as an auxiliary. The present flow rises about eight feet above high tide level. Mr Quayle, who is in charge of the boring operations, is to be congratulated upon the successful results obtained.
In conversation with the Mayor, who has had a good deal of experience with artesian well sinking, we were informed that it is problematical whether a larger flow would 1)0 obtained at a greater depth. In any ease there would have been a certain risk in passing through the present level. He expressed himself as highly pleased with the quantity and quality of the water.
