Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, MARCH 24. 1921. FOXTON'S TELEPHONE SERVICE.
IT limy surprise Hie public oi' Eoxlon lo know Unit between the hours ol' 1.1 p.m. and 7 a.m. they are completely isolated from a telephonic point of view. That is to say, supposing an urgent call to some outside district was necessary during the hours which the bureau is closed to subscriber.-. I lid wires are (dosed against n>. a- the circuit is used lor transmission of long di-l-ance messages. This matter should lie enquired into by those who have the public welfare at heart, and steps taken to ensure that urgentlocal “after-hour" calls be provided for. While on tlu 1 subject, it may bn mentioned that a good deal of dissatisfaction has been expressed by subscribers owing to delay in getting into touch with Palmerston and other towns. It is useless blaming the local oflice for such delay when the department switches Fox ton off to suit the convenience of other centres. A public protest to headquarters is what is needed to improve the service.
